In charge of day-to-day operations, John brings over thirty-two years of commercial brokerage experience to the company. During the course of his career he has leased and sold property to numerous national chain users and institutional owners. In addition, he has extensive experience in the redevelopment of commercial properties, both for his own and his clients’ accounts.
From 2004 to present, as the sole principal of the Buell companies, John has been responsible for leading the brokerage operations of Buell & Company and the asset management operations of Buell Property Management Company, both of which consistently add value for their clients through the aggressive leasing and management of client properties. Under his leadership, the companies continue to develop and implement innovative new techniques to combat the overall downturn in the commercial real estate industry.
From 1990 to 2004 – in addition to his brokerage duties – John headed up Buell Property Management, significantly expanding its client base and establishing the operating systems and procedures still in place today.
From 1993 to 1997 John divided his time between Denver and Florida. In Florida, he oversaw the renovation and re-tenanting of a Palm Beach specialty retail property owned by a client. In addition to restoring the viability of the property, he purchased, on behalf of the client, an adjacent specialty retail property, completed a major renovation and re-tenanting of that property, as well, reselling it for the client at a substantial profit.
From April of 1986 until joining the company in January of 1990, John founded and headed the commercial brokerage and management operations for Realcore, Inc., a Denver company. Under his direction, the company established itself in the leasing, sales and property management fields. During a period in which the real estate market was severely depressed, John distinguished himself in May of 1988 by brokering one of the largest transactions in the state that year – the Plum Creek Golf & Country Club, which sold for $12,750,000 to an Asian purchaser.
From January, 1979 until March of 1986 John was a retail specialist in the Denver office of Grubb and Ellis Commercial Brokerage Company, one of the nation's largest brokerage companies. Specializing in shopping center sales and leasing, he quickly became a top producer at Grubb and Ellis and earned the Top Retail Producer award in 1982.
In October of 1977, he joined Heritage Financial Corporation – an Aurora, Colorado-based multifamily and commercial developer – and was quickly promoted to Assistant Vice-President. His duties revolved around the development and leasing of Heritage's retail shopping centers until his departure in December 1978.
John Graduated from New England College with a BSBA and is a licensed Broker in the state of Colorado.
